GRUPO ALIBERICO PRESENTS IN HUESCA ITS CIRCULAR ECONOMY PROJECT IBERFOIL INTEGRA

The presentation was held at the headquarters of the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation in Huesca, with the presence of the Vice President and Counsellor of Industry, Competitiveness and Business Development of the Government of Aragon, Arturo Aliaga.

The project contemplates the investment of more than 42 million euros and involves the creation of 40 direct jobs in a first phase, 75 in a second phase, and 400 indirect jobs, in addition to consolidating the current 110 jobs.

The president of Grupo Aliberico and president of Iberfoil Aragón, Clemente González Soler, emphasized that it is “an essential and strategic project for Spain, as it is the only plant in our country that laminates thin aluminium foil for the pharmaceutical and food sectors”.

Huesca, September 27th – The president of Grupo Alibérico, Clemente González Soler, has presented today at the headquarters of the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation in Huesca, in the presence of the vice-president and counsellor of Industry, Competitiveness and Business Development of the Government of Aragon, Arturo Aliaga, the Iberfoil Integra project, which involves an investment of more than 42 million euros and is set to become a benchmark for the Circular Economy model in Spain.

The Iberfoil Integra project, which has been declared of regional interest by the Government of Aragon, involves the design and development of a new plant within the current Iberfoil Aragon

factory site in Sabiñánigo (Huesca), which will be equipped with melting furnaces that will be able to use up to 100% hydrogen as fuel in the future and, therefore, reduce and avoid CO2 emissions from this type of process in the current aluminium industries.

The new plant is expected to create 40 direct jobs in the first phase, 75 in the second phase, and 400 indirect jobs, in addition to consolidating the current 110 jobs.

The president of Grupo Aliberico and president of Iberfoil Aragon, Clemente González Soler, highlighted in the presentation of Iberfoil Integra that it is “an essential and strategic project for Spain, as it is the only plant of its kind in our country dedicated to the lamination of thin aluminium foil for the pharmaceutical and food sectors”.

Furthermore, the president of Grupo Aliberico emphasised that “in a world that is becoming increasingly less global and more local, the security of supplies of raw materials will be key for the industry and the economy of the countries”.

The Iberfoil Integra project, which was already advanced by the president of Grupo Aliberico on 17 May, the day on which the third vice-president of the Government and Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, presented the draft Law on Waste and Contaminated Soil, aims to integrate the new melting and continuous casting factory to manufacture aluminium coils from aluminium scrap.

Clemente González Soler assured that, “although this is a project that will provide greater autonomy and independence to Grupo Aliberico, our intention is to maintain, as until now, the collaboration and supply agreements with Aludium Amorebieta”, the company’s main supplier of raw materials.

The new factory for scrap recovery, melting and manufacturing of 6 mm thick coils from continuous casting, will have a surface area of more than 45,000 square metres, and will be located in an area adjacent to the current plant, whose land was acquired in 2014 by Aliberico after the bankruptcy of INASA.

In the new plant, Iberfoil’s own scrap and scrap from other Aliberico plants and those of its customers in Spain will be recovered by melting them in five furnaces (one rotary, two melting and two holding furnaces), producing liquid aluminium that will feed two continuous casting lines that will produce 25,000 tonnes of coils per year.
